Save Vs Splurge – Coat Edition

It may or may not be hot outside but hey we are already into October. Technically fall is here and we’re just few weeks away from cooler temperatures. Are you ready to start shopping for coats? Old Navy vs J.Crew

The J.Crew cocoon coat is definitely a splurge item. The good news is that the retailer often runs sales, and you can snag it at 50% OFF with code FRIDAY which makes the price point so much better.

Is it worth the splurge?

In my humble opinion, 100% yes. I have had this coat for almost 4 years now. It still looks amazing. The quality is outstanding. The silhouette is timeless, I don’t see it going out of style in the foreseeable future. The color I am wearing is called “sandstone”. It is such a beautiful neutral, but at the same it it is not too light (where you have to worry about having to dry clean it too often). It is an oversized and roomy fit. I am wearing size 2. The coat itself is quite thick and warm. There is also a factory version of this coat currently on sale available HERE. I can’t speak of the quality or how it compares against the original one, but it is another option to consider.

The Save – Old Navy Coat

Let me start by saying this coat is absolutely stunning. It’s also available in black. I am so impressed with the style and quality. The outside fabric is really soft. And the color (more caramel in person) is beautiful. The biggest difference between the J.Crew version and this one is the thickness. The save coat is not as warm and thick; and it’s not as oversized. It fits TTS, I am wearing size XS.

The coat has been lightly updated this year in a new beautiful oatmeal color.

The Splurge -Tahari Coat

I bought this coat last year – I am sure you can tell by my picture haha my hair is a lot shorter and darker. It is a thick and warm coat. Beautiful and chic design. Size wise- it runs a tad small in my opinion. I am wearing size Small. The oversized shawl collar definitely makes a statement. Heads up when you first wear the coat, the collar may seem awkward, but promise it molds with wear for more natural look. The belt is removable.

The Save – Banana Republic Wrap Coat

This coat was marked down 40% when I purchased it last week. It is currently back at full price (which no longer makes it a “SAVE”). But don’t worry the retailer runs sales quite frequently and I am certain it will be back on sale in no time. I promise to keep an eye on this one and keep you all updated. This double faced wrap coat is absolutely stunning. The taupe color (also available in grey) is such a beautiful neutral. Size wise, I think it runs TTS. I am wearing size Small. The biggest difference between this and the Tahari coat is definitely the thickness. This coat is not as warm as the splurge version. But perfect for late fall through early winter. The shawl collar is less bulky and looks more natural. It’s a great coat to style with any workwear outfit.
