Hair Extensions.
I have shared with you all that I have had hair extensions put in during NYFW. I had a pleasure of working with the beautiful Erin Hayden from the Hairdreams team. I have been getting quite a few questions about my extensions and the process, so I thought it would be fun to do a Q & A post.
What kind of hair extensions do you have?
My extensions are by HAIRDREAMS, which are bond type extensions. The bonds are flat, and have some flexibility to them. The color of the bonds will be chosen based on your hair color.
Hair Extensions – How It’s Done
The extensions are applied with Laser Beamer Nano system, which allows for super natural setting of extensions into natural hair. They become one with the strand they’re attached to. What it means is simply you move on with your life and do anything you did before extensions: workouts, beach/pool/swimming, styling, etc.
How long does the process take?
It all depends on what look you’re going for: thickening or adding length. It took about 45 minutes for the application. The entire process: cut, application styling, etc. took about 2 hours.
Hair Extensions- Maintenance
As you may already be aware, we lose a small amount of hair daily. Since some of the natural hair is attached to the bond, it is important to see your stylist every 4-6 weeks to remove the “shed” hair.
How long can I wear them?
My Hairdreams extensions can be worn for 4-6 months before they have to be removed. The best part is, you do not have to have them “moved up” as you do with other extension types. What is also great about the Hairdreams extensions (because they’re such great quality), they can be re-bonded and used for up to 1.5 years.
Hair Extensions – Will you get them again?
I mean if you see my before and after pictures, the answer is obvious haha My hair is naturally straight and in pretty good shape. I do unfortunately have grey hair already and have to have it covered every 4-6 weeks. That is why I was so excited to work with HAIRDREAMS team because the extensions are so low maintenance. I love how natural they look and feel. They also hold the curls so well, and if you have followed me for a while, you know I love my beach waves.
Will it work with my hair color?
These extensions are made to look like your natural hair. Actually they look and feel even better. The color can be customized to your needs. I have dark brown hair and recently added some almond colored lowlights. The extensions were matched perfectly. My friend and fellow blogger Rachel is also wearing HAIRDREAMS extensions in blond.
How much does it cost? And how do I find the right salon?
Extensions are definitely an investment. What I love about Hairdreams extensions is not only the amazing quality of the hair, but also the fact that they are pretty low maintenance and do not have to be moved up. And if the hair is in good shape, it can be re-applied. For pricing and salon locator, you can visit the HAIRDREAMS website.
HAIR – Favorite Beauty Products.
I have a funny relationship with haircare products. I love them, but I have yet to find my holly grail regimen that I can swear by. I am not going to push any shampoos or conditioners, because again I have not found THE ONE. But there are few products that have been a part of my haircare system for years, and I feel good recommending them, because I truly love them.
Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray
Batiste Dry Shampoo (hands down THE BEST one there is)
Aveda Damage Remedy Split End Repair (I call this product my tiny miracle)
Oribe Apres Beach Waves Spray
Bumble & Bumble DrySpun Thickening Volume Spray
HAIR – Tools
I use T3 hair tools. And I only use 2: dryer and curling wand. Fun fact: I have purchased both. They were not gifted to me, so rest assured I am raving about them purely because I believe they’re worth every penny.
Dryer. I bought my first T3 dryer in 2006 for $180. It lasted 11 years my friends. In fact it still works. But I knew it was time for a new one. I could not bring myself up to toss it, so it is still in my drawer “just in case” haha I know this one is pricey, but considering it can last over a decade, I consider it a smart investment.
Curling Wand. I use the 1″ attachment the most. The curls definitely last longer than with other less expensive tools. I was actually a roommate with another blogger during a conference, and she had the wand. I got the opportunity to test it out and compare it (to the cheaper one I owned). And the difference was HUGE. This wand is definitely worth it!
Thank you so much for reading! Please let me know if you have any questions about hair extension. And if you have any haircare products you swear by, please do share.

What color do you use on your hair. I love the brown.

I think my stylist uses level 5 on my hair. My hair tends to color “warm”, so it’s best to show your stylist the picture of my color, and she should be able to match you.
